We are Cameron and Katie Oliver we have been married for a
little over 1 year almost 6 years. It has been a crazy first year. (most definitely) We both graduated from Utah Sate University on May 3rd ’09 and then we got married the weekend after; May 9th ’09. 9 days after our wedding I started a job in Salt Lake City. (we’re actually back now!)
We went from, single college kids to a married couple in corporate America, in the span of 2 weeks. As most can tell, we don’t mess around when it comes to life’s big “forks” in the road. We just say “Everything unfolded really quickly and we had to make some hard decisions.”
I guess you could say that is how we ended up 1,600 miles away from “home” and our families. We started this blog to share our experiences in Ohio and to stay in touch with everyone back home.
Of course we miss our families, but we also miss the following: mountains, Utah’s dry climate, snow (Katie might argue that one), etc. . . . (as I think of more I will add to this) I guess I didn’t need to, because we weren’t gone long enough 🙂
It has been a great adventure and think we can both say that this experience has been extremely valuable and we are enjoying it thoroughly. We have adopted/purchased a new addition to the family. (can we say the same thing about Norah?) Her name is Maggie and she is Katie’s pride and joy. I guarantee there will a post, or 2, dedicated to her. (if it were up to Katie, all you would hear about would be how Maggie is doing and how funny she is and how cute and playful she is and how fast she is growing and how she loves people, etc, etc. . . . . Katie loves her cat) Norah, got in the way, so it’s mostly pictures of her, Sorry Maggie)
We are both working full time. That hasn’t changed, Katie stays at home and works more than full time hours…. I remember in college when we kept saying “I can’t wait until I start a career because then I will have so much more time to do things” as we abruptly found out, that is not how it works. There isn’t enough time in the day to do everything we want to do out here.
Although, we miss home we are enjoying our adventure. This is a picture from our Greektown Casino Hotel Room. The background is Downtown Detroit. . . . we eventually had to leave and go back to “real” life.
I am not a professional writer, but I do feel that I can tell a good story. So enjoy our insights, funny stories, and adventures. (and maybe a video or two sprinkled in)
